| Een kind en een nieuwe cd: het is een vruchtbaar jaar voor Anouk.
Dat kind is van Postman The Anonymous Mis, waarmee de kleine twee
Popprijswinnaars als trotse ouders heeft. Dat belooft wat. Moederlief
daarentegen, die vorig jaar zwanger en wel die prestigieuze prijs
in ontvangst nam, heeft alle mogelijke beloften al ingelost. Behalve
het veroveren van Amerika dan, maar dat kan altijd nog. Eigenlijk
moest haar nieuwe album een plaat vol gevoelige ballads worden,
maar Graduated Fool is toch een cd geworden waarbij de kleine vast
de slaap niet kan vatten. Zo is Anouk: intuïtief, goudeerlijk
en in haar hart toch een ruige, niets ontziende rockdame. Niet dat
ze niet openstaat voor invloeden van buitenaf. Let maar eens op
de verschillende verschijningsvormen waarin haar eerste dikke hit
Nobody's Wife in de loop der jaren van het podium gespat is: als
de rauwe rocker die het van oorsprong is, als reggae-achtig nummer,
als tere ballad, als hiphop-stamper compleet met rappers. Bij Anouk
is de koek nog lang niet op.

| A baby and a new CD: a fruitful year for Anouk. The child's father
is Postmen's The Anonymous Mis, which means both its parents are
winners of the Popprijs. So far Anouk has reached all her goals.
Well, except for success in America perhaps, but there's plenty
of time for that. Her new album was supposed to be full of sensitive
ballads, but Graduated Fool turned out quite heavy. That's Anouk
for you: intuitive, honest and in her heart a wild ruthless rock
lady. Of course she's not insensitive to influences from outside.
The various live versions of her first big hit Nobody's Wife are
a point in case. It's been played as a raw rock song, a reggae-ish
song, a fragile ballad, hip hop complete with rappers. Anouk is
someone we'll hear a lot from still.
