Neo-Britpop
Noorderslag/EuroSonic is niet het enige interessante festival van het land. Op London Calling, in het verre Amsterdam, maakte Franz Ferdinand onlangs de nodige indruk. Gloedvolle songs, een theatrale uitstraling, een lichtelijk perverse blik op de Britse pophistorie: de ideale band, kortom, om zich te manifesteren in het jaar dat Suede de pijp aan Maarten geeft. Die Maarten weet wel aan wie hij ‘m doorgeeft, want dit jonge kwartet doet een mooie belofte en maakt die meteen meer dan waar.

Noorderslag/EuroSonic is not the only interesting festival in the Netherlands. London Calling in Amsterdam is one of the other good ones. One of the highlights there were Franz Ferdinand. Warm songs, theatrical appearance and a slightly perverse view of British pop history – in short, the ideal band to raise their head in the year Suede are becoming past time. They are full of promise and they’re sure to keep it.
