Greenday, Pennywise, NOFX en, zowaar, Manu Chao’s oude bandje Mano Negra. Die ziet het Belgische Janez Detd als lichtende voorbeelden. Toch is hun nieuwe plaat ‘Anti-Anthem’ een minder lichtvoetige affaire dan hun vorige werk. Maar wat wil je ook met een recent verleden waarin de band van alles kwijtraakte: platenmaatschappij, instrumenten, vrouwen en zelfs bijna alle bandleden. Maar echte punkers zijn ook echte volhouders en dus is Janez Detd gewoon koppig doorgegaan, de borst vooruit en het haar fier omhoog. Die plaat heeft het trieste verhaal van de groep een gelukkige wending gegeven, wat werd voortgezet met uiterst succesvolle optredens op allerlei Vlaamse festivals. En bovendien won Janez Detd de natte droom van elke oprechte punkrocker: twee TMF Awards.

Greenday, Pennywise, NOFX and, surprisingly, Manu Chao’s former band Mano Negra. Belgian Janez Detd list these as their main inspirations. Yet their new album ‘Anti-Anthem’ is less light-hearted than their earlier work. How could it be, if you think of everything they’ve lost in the recent past: record company, instruments, wives and even most of their members. But real punks are real persistent. So it was chin up, chest forward and hair straight up. This album and numerous superb shows on festivals in Belgium gave the bands’ sad story a turn for the better. And best of all: Janez Detd won the wet dream of every true punk rocker: two TMF Awards.
