Eclectische hiphop
Maar zelfs zo’n omschrijving doet geen recht aan het exotische
stoofpotje invloeden dat deze Finse band zich permitteert. Dub, funk,
r&b, rock, techno-minimalisme: het is er allemaal. De geschiedenis
van Giant Robot is enigszins in nevelen gehuld: niemand wist precies
hoeveel, en welke, muzikanten nou precies deel uitmaakten van dat
immer wisselende collectief, dat uitblonk in wilde, psychedelische
dub-jams die zelden korter duurden dan twintig minuten. Maar momenteel,
dat wil zeggen: op de derde cd Domesticity, gaat het om een zeskoppige
elite-eenheid, die inmiddels heel wat overzichtelijker en compacter
te werk gaat. Maar de weidse hoeveelheid invalshoeken is nog altijd
goed voor een uiterst kleurrijk geluid

But even this description is an understatement for the exotic brew
of this Finish band. Dub, funk, r&b, rock, techno-minimalism: it’s
all there. The history of Giant Robot is shrouded in mystery: no one
knew exactly how many and which musicians were part of the ever changing
collective. Unique in their wild psychedelic dub jams which were seldom
under twenty minutes. At this point however, that is, on their third
CD Domesticity, we are dealing with a six-piece elite and things have
become more compact. Yet the broad musical scope is still providing
an extremely colourful sound.
