Sommige deelnemers aan Noorderslag/EuroSonic waren nog niet eens
geboren toen dit prachtfestival uit de startblokken schoot. Maar
toen had Mark Foggo zijn hoogtijdagen al achter de rug. Dat klinkt
onaardiger dan het bedoeld is. Want na zijn glorietijd van begin
jaren tachtig, toen zijn aanstekelijke New Shoes zelfs een vette
hit was, is deze geboren Brit gewoon doorgegaan met waar hij goed
in is: ska maken. De punk- en new wave-invloeden van het begin liet
hij achter zich ten gunste van een wat authentiekere stijlopvatting.
Maar hoe dan ook: met Foggo in de tent is het gegarandeerd dik feest.

A lot of you Noorderslag/Eurosonic goers were not even born when this
great festival first started. Mark Foggo had already had his heydays then.
This is not as unkind as it sounds. Originally from Great Britain, Mark
Foggo had a big hit in the early 80s with New Shoes and after the glory
days that went wit hit, he simply continued doing what he does best: play
ska. He left out the initial punk and new wave influences for the benefit
of a somewhat more authentic type of ska. Either way, with Foggo the sea
of bobbing heads will metamorphose into a wildly dancing crowd.
