De afgelopen EuroSonic-edities hebben ons heel wat heftige rockbands van Zweedse komaf gebracht. Want ondanks de erfenis van Abba kunnen ze dat daar hoor, rocken. Nu is er weer Moneybrother, een van de vele bands op het fameuze Burning Heart-label. Naar hun debuut ‘Blood Panic’ werd dan ook reikhalzend uitgekeken. Voorman Anders Wendin is niet zomaar iemand, maar een muzikant die met zijn vorige punkband Monster al bergen verzette. In Moneybrother verbindt hij de onverzettelijkheid van de punk en de energie van de rock met de onverzettelijkheid van de reggae, de woede van de hiphop en de sensualiteit van de soul. Wendin had al de stem om dat waar te maken, en nu ook de band.

The past few EuroSonic editions have brought us quite a few energetic Swedish rock bands who’d rather rock than listen to Abba. Next in this line are Moneybrother, one of the many bands on the famous Burning Heart label. Their debut ‘Blood Panic’ was impatiently awaited, all the more so because frontman Anders Wendin already wrote rock history with is former punk band Monster. Moneybrother combine the rawness of punk, the energy of rock, the stubbornness of reggae, the anger of hip hop and the sensuality of soul. Wendin has finally found a band that can equal his great voice.
