Niet voor niets staat dit jaar de focus op Frankrijk. Neem nou Têtes Raides, een opmerkelijke groep zoals je die elders gewoonweg niet hebt. In de muziek van dit vijf mannen en twee vrouwen sterke gezelschap komt van alles samen: Jacques Brel, Tom Waits, Kurt Weill, maar ook de strijdbare punkgeest van The Clash. ’t Is geen chanson, musette, punk of rock, ’t is iets unieks waarin al die tonen rondzweven. Op cello, viool, accordeon, bas, blazers en meer. En met een uniek gevoel voor theater. Frans als een zwartwitfoto uit de jaren vijftig van een existentialistisch café te Parijs.

This year’s Eurosonic focuses on France, and for a good reason too. Take Têtes Raides, a remarkable group that can only come from France. The five men and two women manage to combine Jaques Brel, Tom Waits and Kurt Weill with the Clash’s rebellious punk spirit. You can’t tag their unique stew as chanson, musette, punk or rock. Using cello, violin, accordion, horns and bass, they have a unique sense of theatre. They’re French as in a 50s black and white photograph of an existentialist café in Paris.
