Eigenlijk is hij geen echte DJ, deze DJ Keu. Leeuwarder Marc R. Kooij is eerder een soort moderne singer/songwriter, die zijn liedjes nog net wel schrijft op de gitaar maar het resultaat vervolgens overzet op de computer om daarna te profiteren van de oneindige mogelijkheden van dat ding. Zo voert hij zijn werk ook live uit. Dan blijken zijn zeer persoonlijke, kwetsbare liedjes vol gedragen melodieën, weldadige rust en vredelievende harmonieën bovendien opmerkelijk goed tot hun recht te komen. Niet dat Kooij geen herrie kan maken of zo: hij hanteerde jarenlang de bas in hippiepunkband Intolerant. Daarnaast maakt hij deel uit van het Leeuwarder kunstenaarscollectief De Zoete Hanen. Voor de films die dit creatieve stelletje ongeregeld maakt, vervaardigt hij natuurlijk de muziek. Geen eenzijdig tiepje dus.

DJ Keu, the only among the DJ's on EuroSonic who is not a DJ. Marc R. Kooij, as his real name is, is rather a modern singer/songwriter, who writes his songs on guitar, but then transposes them to the computer, so as to make optimal use of the endless possibilities of the thing. And that's how he performs his songs live. It proves to be an excellent way to get his personal, vulnerable songs, full of grand melodies, pleasurable calm and peaceful harmonies across to the audience. This is not all he's capable of though; for years he has played bass in hippie punk band Intolerant, and he is one of the artists' collective De Zoete Hanen. They make films, and DJ Keu makes the soundtracks. A man of many talents.
